Preparation

Preparation

Proper surface preparation, combined with experienced craftsmanship, is the key to achieving beautiful and long-lasting results. Many painting companies hire unskilled laborers so the end result is of poor quality, often resulting in paint flaws and chipping. Our crew consists of Master Painters only, who excel in numerous painting styles and techniques. Alberto personally oversees every painting project thus ensuring that each job meets his personal standard of excellence.

Before painting preparation begins, our crew will carefully remove your artwork, drapery and wall hangings and cover all furniture and floors with clean plastic and drop cloths to ensure they are protected.

Restoration

Loose Plaster:

Our Master Painters take the traditional approach to restoring damaged wall plaster. This technique ensures that damaged walls remain strong and sturdy. Particular attention is focused on achieving a smooth surface which matches the wall’s original appearance. Older homes normally have wood lathes. Our painters will remove the damaged wood lathes, and replace it with wire lathes, which are stronger and more durable. Brown-coating will then be applied to cover wire lathes and plaster will be applied on top. The area will then be sanded to achieve a smooth surface.

Cracks:

It is very important to use the correct technique to fix a crack in plaster or sheetrock in order to prevent the crack from reopening in the future:

In Plaster: Painters will open the crack in order to create a “V” shape. Plaster is then applied. The area is then mesh-taped and followed with three coats of joint compound.

In Sheetrock: Painters will use mesh tape to cover crack, followed by several coats of joint compound. The area is then sanded in order to achieve a smooth surface.

Chips:

In Woodwork: In order to restore abused woodwork, painters will apply MH Spackle, created especially for woodwork, to the damaged area followed by several applications of plaster and then hand sanded. This process is repeated until the wood has a smooth, even surface.

Ceiling and Baseboard Trim: All openings will be filled with special caulking to ensure that there are no gaps or holes and there is a uniform finish.

Sanding:

Preparation

Proper sandpaper “grade” selection is extremely important and can mean the difference between having a flawless paint job and a very unsuccessful one. Depending on what material the particular surface you are preparing is made of, and the desired result – a particular grade of sandpaper is appropriate. If the wrong paper grade is selected, the result can be either a scratched or bumpy surface or both.

Doors and Windows:

Before painting, our painters will make sure that each door is properly fitted in the door frame to ensure that the door does not stick after paint preparation, so the door and paint are not damaged in the future. Further, we apply silicon to window tracts so the window will easily open and close.

Prime:

Primer is then applied to the prepared surfaces. It is important to use the proper type of primer for each surface type.

Now your home will be ready for paint application!
